Dr. Luque has been a Florida resident for over 30 years. His attendance at the Universidad de Panama Medical School was followed by a 2-year Flexible Internship. He then spent a year working overseas as a General Practitioner with the US Armed Forces. Subsequently, he completed a pediatric residency at the University of Florida Health Science center in Jacksonville Florida. Dr. Luque spent 16 years at the Pediatric Emergency Care Center at Tampa General Hospital, a teaching facility of the University of South Florida Medical School. From 1988 to 1989, he served as Chairman of the Hillsborough Region American Heart Association ACLS Committee. He holds an Academic appointment of Affiliate Assistant professor of Pediatrics with the college of Medicine at USF.

Dr. Luque joined EMA in 2000. Over the last several years, he has led the St. Joseph’s Hospital Pediatric Emergencies Nursing Education Initiative and has been actively involved in the Child Maltreatment steering committee. In the Emergency Department, his areas of interest include Trauma, Pediatric Procedural Sedation and Patient Satisfaction improvement.

Dr. Luque served as the Associate Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency/Trauma Center until assuming the Director position in 2011. He currently serves on EMA’s Board of Directors. Triple Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Dr. Luque is also a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Emergency Physicians where he is also a member of the Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
