Emergency Department

EMA has over 50 board certified emergency physicians working in some of the busiest and most respected emergency departments in the Southeast. Working with an experienced team of advanced practice providers, their collective clinical talents allow our patients to get back to their lives and loved ones. Excelis Medical Associates exclusively hires fellowship trained, board certified pediatric emergency physicians and specially trained emergency pediatric advanced practice providers to meet that challenge every day. Excelis Medical Associates provides clinical expertise on a daily basis as well as ongoing operational support to ensure efficiencies and the highest level of patient satisfaction in pediatric emergency departments.

Our ED-based observation units are protocol driven to maximize efficiency. EMA’s many success stories in this field have demonstrated improved throughput, decreased hospital readmission rates and increased patient satisfaction scores all while accommodating growing patient volume in our partner hospitals.

St. Joseph’s Hospital is a 700-bed tertiary care hospital and home to Tampa, Florida’s only Level 2 Trauma Center. Excelis Medical Associates have been the exclusive emergency services provider at SJH since 1976. The emergency department is one of the busiest in the country with more than 100,000 patients every year and an admission rate of 30%. St. Joseph’s Hospital is listed on IBM-Watson Health’s list of top 100 hospitals.

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is a 200-bed tertiary care children’s hospital in Tampa, Florida. EMA’s team of 100% Fellowship trained, Board Certified Pediatric Emergency Physicians have been their exclusive provider of emergency care since 1995. St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital treats more children than any other hospital in the Tampa Bay region. The ED sees over 50,000 children every year.

St. Joseph’s Hospital – North is a 110-bed full-service community hospital in Lutz, Florida. In addition to Emergency Care, the hospital offers intensive care, surgical services, obstetrics, a full-service cardiac catheterization lab and an array of imaging services. Excelis Medical Associates have been the exclusive provider of emergency services since the hospital opened in 2010. EMA cares for more than 40,000 patients every year. Approximately 25% of patients seen in the ED require admission for further treatment.

St. Joseph’s Hospital – South

St. Joseph’s Hospital – South is a 90-bed full-service community hospital in Riverview, Florida. In addition to the ED, the hospital also operates an intensive care unit, maternity unit, full-service imaging services and an array of general medical and surgical services. EMA has been the exclusive provider of emergency services since the hospital opened in 2015. The ED at St. Joseph’s Hospital – South cares for more than 65,000 patients every year. Approximately 20% of those patients require hospital admission.

Lee Moffit Cancer Center

Located on the University of South Florida campus, Moffitt Cancer Center is a nationally recognized 244-bed Cancer Hospital and Research Center. In 2019, Excelis Medical Associates were selected to provide services in Moffitt’s Direct Referral Center; the equivalent to their Emergency Department. EMA is tasked with providing evaluation and stabilizing treatment for oncology patients who develop an acute problem during their course of cancer treatment. The Direct Referral Center includes an observation unit where EMA physicians manage patients placed in observation status.
