We are so proud of our ER doctor Juan Carlos Abanses and team members Christopher Perry and Richard Traina for creating a homemade device to protect health care providers while treating COVID-19 patients. It is now being mass-produced and used throughout BayCare based on prototypes developed by St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital-South. It’s amazing to see how these innovations can create a safer and more effective work environment.

Homemade devices created by two BayCare hospitals to protect health care providers while treating COVID-19 patients are now being mass-produced and will be used throughout the system. The devices are used during intubation, the point of highest risk for spread of the virus to health care personnel.
